Pre-anaesthetic bloods, not just for show

People often ask why we always recommend a pre-anaesthetic blood test, well this puppy is the perfect example.

Whilst she may look healthy on the outside, and certainly her clinical exam didn't reveal anything abnormal, you would be right to think this 19 week old pup is healthy. When she came for her desexing procedure though, we performed a pre-anaesthetic blood test which showed she had a significant anaemia (low blood count). Had we gone ahead with her surgery it could have been life threatening.

Pre-anesthetic blood tests allow us to detect issues that a normal examination can't see. So whilst it's not common to find problems, when we do, it just might save a pet's life.
