An architect-designed emergency and critical care veterinary hospital, offering 24 hour care for pet owners in Mitchell Shire, is under construction in Wallan.
The Northern Veterinary Group, which operates clinics in Kilmore and Wallan, has taken its biggest step yet to offering Mitchell Shire’s pet owners access to the very best vet care, with construction underway at 139 High Street, Wallan.
The new hospital will replace the current Wallan branch clinic and allow for more extensive services to be provided, including x-rays and dentistry, meaning patients will no longer need to be referred to the Kilmore vet hospital.
The new hospital will offer a full 24 hour emergency and critical care service. This means there will be a vet on-site at all times – something that Northern Veterinary Group owner, Dr Paul May, is particularly excited about.
“I’ve always wanted to introduce an emergency service, but I wanted to do it when I could ensure the quality of the emergency care matched the quality of our regular care,” he said.
The hospital, which will feature 3 consult rooms, a large patient preparation area, surgical theatre, separate dog and cat wards and isolation facilities, has been a dream of Dr May’s ever since he purchased the Kilmore and Wallan clinics 6 years ago.
“I started working with designs 3 years ago and looking for an appropriate block of land. I never thought it would take this long to get here but needless to say we’re all pretty excited now construction has finally started,” he said.
The hospital has been designed from scratch by Crosshatch Studios to maximise patient and staff comfort, as well as space and light. It is being constructed by Lang Construction, who are also the builders for popular Channel 9 show, The Block.
The hospital is expected to open mid 2016.
